Workshop on EMBROIDER YOUR VISION on 10th January 2025
On January 10, 2025, the Rai School of Design, Rai University, organized a one-day workshop on machine embroidery for students of B.Des. The session aimed to provide hands-on exposure to modern embroidery techniques, complementing the theoretical knowledge taught in the classroom. With the increasing demand for detailed, customized textile work in fashion and lifestyle industries, the workshop was designed to build both technical proficiency and creative confidence among students.
Bringing together embroidery enthusiasts, the workshop introduced participants to the latest methods, tools, and design applications using Usha’s advanced embroidery machines. The morning session began with an overview of machine embroidery basics, followed by a live demonstration that covered threading, setup, and machine operations. Students were guided on stitch variations, thread and fabric compatibility, and how to use embroidery software to convert artwork into machine-readable designs.
The afternoon was dedicated to a practical, hands-on experience, where students tried out techniques directly on the machines under the supervision of experienced instructors. They learned to produce decorative stitches, textured borders, and custom motifs while receiving tips on troubleshooting and workflow optimization.
In addition to skill development, the workshop also provided insights into current industry trends in machine embroidery, and its growing use in areas such as fashion design, home décor, and personalized products. Discussions included the commercial potential of embroidery-based products and how students could creatively apply these skills in entrepreneurial or freelance projects.
The event wrapped up with an interactive Q&A session, where students shared their experiences and suggestions for future workshops. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with students appreciating the balance of theory and practice.
Overall, the workshop served as an enriching experience, allowing students to develop new skills, explore creative possibilities, and better understand the evolving role of machine embroidery in contemporary design.
