National Education Policy 2020

About NEP 2020

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 sets out a bold vision for Indian education: learning that is flexible, multidisciplinary and skills-focused, with the learner at its centre. It also emphasises access, equity, quality, affordability and accountability at every level.

RAI University has implemented NEP 2020 from Academic Year 2023-24 for all applicable courses. The University continues to align its academic programmes, teaching practices, assessment methods and governance with this vision, in keeping with the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Ministry of Education and the Government of Gujarat.

Vision

Our approach to NEP 2020 is guided by a simple aim: to prepare students not only for examinations, but for careers and for life. We work towards:

  • Holistic, multidisciplinary education that builds intellectual, social, ethical and professional strengths
  • Freedom of choice, through flexible, credit-based programmes that let students shape their own learning pathway
  • Stronger employability, through skill development, internships, apprenticeships and close engagement with industry
  • A culture of research, innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Respect for Indian knowledge, languages and culture, alongside a global outlook
  • An inclusive and supportive campus where every learner can thrive
Key Features of NEP-Aligned Programmes

Our programmes follow a credit-based framework aligned with the National Credit Framework (NCrF). It recognises learning in many forms, including classroom study, laboratory and field work, projects, internships and online courses. Each programme brings together:

Major courses

that build depth in the chosen discipline

Minor courses

from the same or a different discipline

Multidisciplinary

that broaden knowledge

Ability Enhancement

in language, communication and analytical skills

Skill Enhancement

that develop practical, job-ready skills

Value-Added

on ethics, environment, constitutional values and Indian Knowledge Systems

NCrF-aligned credit recognition

Integrates academic, vocational and experiential learning. Credits are assigned on the basis of notional learning hours and can be accumulated and transferred through the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), supporting flexibility, multiple entry and exit options, and lifelong learning.

Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes

Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes

Where applicable, we offer four-year undergraduate programmes with Honours or Honours with Research options, aligned with the National Higher Education Qualifications Framework (NHEQF). These programmes define learning outcomes at each level, offer multiple entry and exit points, and give students deeper subject expertise and early exposure to research.

Academic Bank of Credits (ABC)

RAI University is registered with the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) and the National Academic Depository (NAD). Credits earned by students are stored digitally and can be transferred or redeemed, making it easier to move between institutions.

  • Students need to create an ABC ID on the official portal (abc.gov.in).
  • Academic records and credit data are uploaded to the NAD/ABC platform in line with UGC and Ministry of Education timelines.
  • Degrees and marksheets are available digitally through DigiLocker, where applicable.

Credit Transfer and Lateral Entry

The University recognises credits earned at other institutions and on approved online platforms, subject to its regulations. Lateral entry and re-entry, at this or another institution, are available in accordance with the applicable guidelines.

Online and Blended Learning

Students can earn credits through approved online courses, such as those offered on SWAYAM, within the limits set by the UGC and the University.

Skill Development, Internships and Employability

We want every graduate to be ready for the world of work. To support this, we offer:

  • Internships (AED), apprenticeships and project work built into the curriculum
  • Skill courses designed with input from industry and professional bodies
  • Industry visits, expert lectures and workshops
  • Training, placement and internship support through the Corporate Resource Cell.

Holistic Education

Students are encouraged to look beyond their primary discipline. Choice-based electives and minors allow them to combine subjects across science, technology, management, humanities and the arts, building a broader perspective and a wider range of skills.

Indian Knowledge Systems, Languages and Culture

The University promotes Indian Knowledge Systems, traditional wisdom, arts and culture through dedicated courses, activities and events. We encourage multilingualism, with a focus on Indian languages (including Gujarati and Hindi) alongside English.

Assessment and Evaluation

Assessment is moving away from rote memorisation towards continuous, competency-based evaluation. It combines internal assessments, projects, presentations, practical and end-term examinations, and clear learning outcomes are defined for every programme and course.
