11th April, 2017: School of Life Sciences at Rai University, Ahmedabad jointly organized a seminar with Spinco Biotech Pvt. Ltd; Ahmedabad for the students of B.Sc. Microbiology, B.Sc. Biotechnology, B.Sc. Biochemistry, M.Sc. Microbiology, M.Sc. Biotechnology and B.Tech Biotechnology in School of life sciences. In all five experts from Spinco Biotech shared knowledge with students. Their names areMr. KrishnadasPatil, Mr. Gunvat K. Yadav, Mr. GovardhanAaghavan, Mr. Abhishek Shernbekar and Mr. Devansh Shah.They guest speakers were warmly welcomed by School of Life Sciences at Rai University, Ahmedabad. In the course of the seminar, they covered several important topics in the analytical instrumentation techniques like HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography), LCMS(Liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry), Mass Spectroscopy, lyophilizer, Bioreactor and Fermenter and thus an entire know-how of current life science industry was delivered to students.

Thus, the main objective of this seminar was to fulfill this gap-filling and address the needs to students and imbibe knowledge of latest instrumentation in life science in them in order to make them industry ready. Recently, there has been a wide acceptance of bioanalysisas an integral part of the life Sciences industry. Moreover, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, characterization of a novel chemical entity from the time of its discovery and during various stages of drug development, leading to its market authorization has gained popularity. In the present seminar, the important bioanalytical parameters and its application to drug discovery and development approaches was discussed, which will help in the development of safe and more efficacious drugs with reduced development time and cost. It intended to give the students some general thoughts in this area which will form basis of a general framework as to how they would approach bio analysis from inception, discovery of a lead molecule and progressing through various stages of drug development for future their life sciences projects.
Furthermore, students learned about HPLC: High-performance liquid chromatography formerly referred to as high-pressure liquid chromatography, a technique in analytical chemistry used to separate, identify, and quantify each component in a mixture. LCMS: Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry a technique with the development of Electrospray Ionisation (ESI) providing a simple and robust interface. It can be applied to a wide range of biological molecules and the use of tandem MS and stable isotope internal standards allows highly sensitive and accurate assays to be developed. Many compounds can be measured in a single analytical run. With the development of more affordable and reliable instruments, LC-MS is starting to play an important role in several areas of clinical biochemistry and compete with conventional liquid chromatography and other techniques such as immunoassay.
All in all, it was a great seminar, students gained the wealth of knowledge presented to them.
