Rally Organized by Rai University On The Occasion of World Food Day

Each year, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations celebrates World Food Day on 16 October to commemorate the founding of the Organization in 1945. Events are organized in over 150 countries across the world, making it one of the most celebrated days of the UN calendar. These events promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and other forms of malnutrition and for the need to ensure food security and healthy diets for all.
The theme of World Food Day for the year 2019 was OUR ACTIONS ARE OUR FUTURE. HEALTHY DIETS FOR A #ZEROHUNGER WORLD. Achieving Zero Hunger is not only about feeding the hungry. It’s also about nourishing people with healthy diets that include a sufficient variety of safe and nutritious foods while maintaining the health of the planet on which we all depend. Every year, World Food Day calls on us all to take action across all sectors to achieve Zero Hunger.
In order to send a strong message to the public regarding healthy diets and ending hunger and all forms of malnutrition in this lifetime and become the Zero Hunger Generation, on 16th October, 2019, Rai University, Ahmedabad organized a rally, along with the undergraduate students and staff.

Before initiating the rally, an introductory speech was given by Dean, School of Agricuture, Dr. K. V. Patel. He explained the importance of this day being celebrated every year to address the core issues related to unhealthy diets and global hunger. He further explained what actions we must take for achieving Zero Hunger in true sense. Followed to his speech, a small act was showcased by the students regarding unhealthy foods and current lifestyle. This short act attracted a good crowd who appraised students at the end of the act.

After this act, the rally begun from Kalikund Crossroads, Dholka. Around 54 students along with the staff participated in this rally with great enthusiasm. The students and staff carrying placards, raised slogans to encourage healthy diets and stop the wastage of food. The slogans in English, Hindi and Gujarati – ‘EAT RIGHT, BE BRIGHT’, ‘EAT HEALTHY, BE HEALTHY, ‘EAT TO LIVE; DON’T LIVE TO EAT’, ‘SOMEONE IS DYING FOR THE FOOD YOU ARE THROWING AWAY’, ‘JAISA ANN, WAISA MANN’, ‘BEET ANE GAAJAR, TANDURASTI HAAZAR’. The public was impressed by these slogans especially with the slogans raised in the local language. The rally ended at Parshwanath Crossroads, Dholka with concluding remarks by a student Sneha.

Overall the rally created awareness among the public regarding healthy diets, the present condition of hunger, globally and in our country, the challenges our nation is facing in eradicating hunger and malnutrition and the actions we can collectively take in this direction. Thus, it was indeed a memorable experience for all the students that were accompanied by University faculties and this rally served to be good platform for creating awareness among the public.
