Electrical Engineering Labs

Department of Electrical Engineering has always been in the forefront of providing quality need – based training in contemporary and emerging areas and development of demand innovative instructional resources.

Lab 1

This Lab accommodates Hi-tech lab instruments to support the practical session for courses such as Elements of Electrical Engineering and Basics of Electrical Engineering for both Degree and Diploma Engineering. Our students follow a rigorous routine in these laboratories to make themselves familiar with subject matter. The major equipments available are:

  • Kirchoff Laws
  • Open circuit – Short circuit test on single phase transformer
  • Load test on single phase transformer
  • Measurement of power using two wattmeter methods in three phase circuit
Lab 2

This Lab accommodates the practical session for courses such as Circuit and Network, Network Theory and Digital Logic Design for both Degree and Diploma Engineering. The major equipments available are:

  • Kirchoff Laws
  • General Purpose theorem trainer
  • Superposition Theorem
  • Nodal Analysis
  • ABCD Parameters
  • H-Y-Z Parameter of two port network
Lab 3

The lab is equipped with all types of AC and DC machines mainly covered in the B.Tech curriculum. Getting hands-on experiments with real machines, students gain practical experience in using various AC & DC motors, alternators, transformers, starters etc. This Lab accommodates the practical session for courses such as Electrical Machine I, II and III, Electrical and Electronics Measuring Instruments for both Degree and Diploma Engineering. The major equipments available in the lab are:

  • No Load & Block Rotor Test on 3phase IM-Panel
  • Hopkinson Test Panel
  • Speed Torque Characteristic of DC Machine Panel
  • Swinburne Test Panel
  • Sumpner’s Test 1phase Transformer Panel Squirrel Cage IM Panel

Electronics & Communication Lab

Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering shall continue to innovate processes to usher developments in electronics & communication engineering education, keeping excellence in focus and deliver quality services to match the needs of the technical education system, industry and society.

E & C Lab

This facility supports introductory ECE courses in analog and digital circuits, basic and advanced electronics. The lab also supports more advanced experiments in signals and systems, communications, electromagnetism, and photonics. Senior design and project students use the lab on an open basis and several freshman elements/basic modules are held here.

Applied Sciences Labs

Applied science department was established to impart knowledge of science courses. The basic purpose of science teaching is to develop concepts and principles in order to apply them in the context of engineering and technology disciplines.

Physics Lab

This facility supports introductory physics courses for both students who have applied in both degree and diploma courses. The lab also supports more advanced experiments in digital communication & electromagnetism. Senior design and project students use the lab on an open basis. The major equipments available in the lab are:

Chemistry Lab

The Lab has facilities for Chemical and Instrumental methods of analysis of water, oil, soap, sugar, solid, liquid and gaseous fuels etc. and testing and analysis of liquid effluents and gaseous emissions. Sophisticated instruments like water analyzer, spectrophotometer, polarograph etc. are also available.

Biology Lab

The lab has facility for Bio technology, Micro biology courses of B.Sc and B.Tech BioTechnology Engineering. The department is facilitated with several modern equipments for biotechnology research activities. Some of the major equipment include:

Mechanical Lab 3

The Thermal Fluids Laboratory involves design, execution and evaluation of physical experiments in the areas of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. The course involves design, execution and evaluation of physical experiments in the areas of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. In addition, the facilities include "table top" instrumentation for viscosity measurement, measurement of pressure distribution on an airfoil, flow visualization and head loss across a valve on which students conduct experiments.

Mechanical Lab 4

Heat Transfer Operations: This lab gives the student a technical insight into the various heat transfer operations. The lab is well-equipped with heat exchangers, evaporators, study of thermal conductivity, radiation set-up, natural and forced convection set-ups and pilot plants. etc.

Mass Transfer Operations: As the name indicates, this lab gives the student an experience in mass transfer operations, which are inevitable for a chemical industry. This lab is equipped with steam distillation apparatus, simple distillation apparatus, wetted wall column, spray drier, leaching units, extraction units, plate columns and models supplied by Kochi refinery etc.

Drawing Lab 1 & 2

The process of producing engineering drawings, and the skill of producing those, is often referred to as technical drawing or drafting (also spelled draughting), although technical drawings are also required for disciplines that would not ordinarily be thought of as parts of engineering. This Drawing Lab proves useful for the freshman students and remains open to the senior students pursuing civil engineering.

The Civil Engineering Laboratory has been designed to provide civil engineering students with state-of-the-art facilities to develop their practical skills. All types of surveying instrumentation, including optical transits, self-leveling and tilting levels (one with optical micrometer), are available in the surveying laboratory.
