The academic system of an educational institution forms the backbone of quality in academic delivery. It is not only the quality but also the fulfillment of the learning needs and aspirations of the students to empower them to compete in the global market are of greatest significance. In keeping with the needs of multi-skilling and broad based knowledge along with the development of core competence, we at Rai University have adopted an academic system, which not only meets global standards, but is committed to prepare global citizens.
The program structure has been so organized that the student acquires knowledge in both in-depth and broad-based ways. So while pursuing any program, students are offered the opportunity to study subjects not only from their own specialized stream but also from other from other streams so that they are able to move into new areas of interest and develop 360 degree thinking that is required in real life and enterprise. These subjects enable students to acquire not only a broad based knowledge but also help them in navigating complex paths in life and respond to changes in their own aspirations and also the external environment in a dynamic ways: from a position of strength and awareness that comes through familiarity with diversity. The subjects have been grouped under ‘General Subjects’ and ‘Specialization Subjects’.
The definition of these terms is as follows:
These are subjects pertaining to a varied range of disciplines beyond the specialized area of interest of any student.
Students have the liberty to choose subjects from the general stream as per the credit requirement of their program.
These are subjects pertaining to specialized area of interest of any student.
Let us have a look at an example:
If a student enrolls for a MA General program, he/she has to earn 40 credits which means he has to pick any 10 subjects having a credit of 4 each. These credits can be earned by taking any subject from the list of post graduate general subjects offered.
However if a student enrolls for a MA Geography program, he/she has to earn 60 credits which means he has to earn 20 credits by taking 5 subjects from geography and the remaining 40 credits can be earned by taking any subjects from the list of post graduate general subjects offered.
Minimum earned credits required for all degree programs are laid down in the table below with requirement of credits in various categories.
Each subject is assigned a certain number of credits. As per international standards, the student can take any number of credits in a year in order to increase the pace of achieving the degree.
A student can earn a credit for the subject for which he/she has taken an examination and has secured a ‘D’ or above grade. Any course in which a student earns ‘E’ will not be counted towards his/ her earned credits. The student may be given a choice of re-appearing in the examination for that particular subject in which he/she earns ‘E’ grade.
