Workshop on “Trends in Industrial Automation world”

Trends in Industrial Automation world” Workshop by Prolific Systems & Technologies Pvt. Ltd.

When we talked to knowledge there are different kinds of knowledge and different ways of obtaining each kind. One way is theory and on another way is the practical application of theory. Both types of knowledge are important and both make you better at whatever you do. We being an engineer its necessary for us to learn and enhance our knowledge on various new technologies. On the aim of this, Electrical engineering department, Rai University organized a Workshop “Trends in Industrial Automation world”. On 24th July 2018. The Workshop was initiated on 11.30 am in the early and ends on 2:30 pm with final session of Automation. In Guest lecture Total 30 students and 4 Faculty members from Electrical department of Rai University, Ahmedabad had been present in the session.

The Workshop was conducted by the Prolific Systems & Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Sarang Pimpalkar, Mr. Dhruv and Mr. Tarun conducted the workshop. Workshop is divided in three sessions. First session conducted by Mr. Sarang has over 10 years of work experience in an Automation world. It was based on DCS (Distributed control system) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition). He explained how the advantages DCS dominated over the disadvantages of Microcontrollers in the terms of numbers of inputs and outputs, memory, networking etc. The workshop started with the brief introduction of Industrial Automation. He told students that how automation encompasses the whole system of industries by providing efficient technology to produce more products at a greater speed at the edge of low cost, which encourages competition in the market and also the need of more efficient technologies.

The speaker also emphasized students to take training of Automation. Lastly, Mr.Tarun also conducted the lecture by Hardware setup on a DCS (Distributed control system). A DCS typically uses custom designed processors as controllers and uses both proprietary interconnections and Communications protocol for communication. Outcome of this session is students have to know the difference between DCS and PLC. DCS is a network of Highly Powerful PLCs and Data Server. PLC is usually used for controlling medium or large scale applications, whereas DCS is used for controlling entire plant. Using DCS software in Automation Industry is a quick and fast operation.

This workshop provided the students many new understanding in Automation world. It helped them figure out the exact use and meaning of industrial automation in today’s Scenario. The motto of arranging this type of workshop in college is to encourage the students to choose DCS and PLC based definition for their final year project.
