Navratri Celebration at Rai University

Navratri is a Hindu festival celebrated in the autumn every year. It is observed for various reasons and celebrated differently in various parts of the Indian subcontinent.

In Gujarat, Navratri is a community event, where people perform Garbas on devotional songs that are popular by the names of ‘Dandiya Raas’ and ‘Garba Raas’, and perform Jaagran (waking through the night), to please the Goddess. Gujarat is a favorite pilgrim for devotees during Navratri.

With an aim to spread joy and happiness, Rai University, Ahmedabad had organized Garba as Navratri Celebration on the first day of Navratri i.e. 10th October 2018. The campus looked like a mini Gujarat, with all the Students and Teachers, all dressed up in traditional Gujarati attire and dancing to the rhythmic Garba beats!

The celebration started with ‘Aadhyashakti Aarti’ dedicated to Goddess Durga, which was done by Provost, Dr. Kartik Jain and Prof. Anil Tomar (Dy. provost & Registrar) & accompanied by Dr. K V Patel (Dean-Agricilture Dpt) and Dr. D M Patel (Prof. Of Mechanical Dpt) and Directors, HODs, Faculties and students.  The function continued from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. All the students and staff present there joined in the celebration, tapping to the spectacular music.

The whole celebration was full of enthusiasm, fun and franticness. This event brought awareness among the students about the traditional customs while enjoying the Garba. A strong bond was visualized between teachers and students. It was huge family tapping their toes with the rejoicing music. The Navratri Celebration was indeed a great event!
