The Thermal Fluids Laboratory involves design, execution and evaluation of physical experiments in the areas of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. The course involves design, execution and evaluation of physical experiments in the areas of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. In addition, the facilities include "table top" instrumentation for viscosity measurement, measurement of pressure distribution on an airfoil, flow visualization and head loss across a valve on which students conduct experiments.
Heat Transfer Operations: This lab gives the student a technical insight into the various heat transfer operations. The lab is well-equipped with heat exchangers, evaporators, study of thermal conductivity, radiation set-up, natural and forced convection set-ups and pilot plants. etc.
Mass Transfer Operations: As the name indicates, this lab gives the student an experience in mass transfer operations, which are inevitable for a chemical industry. This lab is equipped with steam distillation apparatus, simple distillation apparatus, wetted wall column, spray drier, leaching units, extraction units, plate columns and models supplied by Kochi refinery etc.
The process of producing engineering drawings, and the skill of producing those, is often referred to as technical drawing or drafting (also spelled draughting), although technical drawings are also required for disciplines that would not ordinarily be thought of as parts of engineering.
