The Corporate Resource Cell of Rai University organized a visit to the pride of Gujarat and one of the most visited spots in the state of Gujarat by a large number of people daily from all walks of life, the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd or popularly known as Kevadia Colony Dam.
The basic functionality of Hydro-Power Plant which includes high head vertical Francis Turbine, its total generating capacity is 1450 MW which is divided in 2 units :
 6 units of 200 MW each (1200 MW) Francis turbine
 5 unit of (250 MW) Kaplan turbine
It was the late Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel who conceived the idea of constructing a dam over the river Narmada in 1946-47 for the optimum use of Narmada waters for the welfare of the Nation. The Sardar Sarovar is one of the largest water resources project of India covering four major states- Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Dams spillway discharging capacity (30.7 lakhs cusecs) would be third highest in the world. With 1,133 cusecs (40,000 cusecs) capacity at the head regulator, and 532 km. Length, the Narmada Main Canal would be the largest irrigation canal in the world.
The students of 4th & 6th semester Electrical and all the staff members have enjoyed the technical endeavor at the “Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited, Kevadia” a lot. The company persons also appreciated our students after the question answer sessions. The students were given a brief view of the Electrical Energy produced and electrical alignments in place for generating hydel electricity and the complex concepts of Mechanical Engineering that are incorporated in this huge structure and soon to be a witness to the statue of unity.
The students not only enjoyed the technical part of the visit but also felt proud of the significance of this place and the glory it brings to the country. Also the students understood a lot of concepts related to their studies.
