We know today, theoretical knowledge is not enough for making a good professional career. With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit provides student a practical perspective on the world of work. It provides students with an opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices. Practical way of learning plays a very important role in every branch of study. 7th to 9th March, School of Life Sciences organized visit to Institute of Human Genetics, Ahmedabad (batch wise, as per the schedule).
To begin with, the students met Dr. JayeshSheth, Chairman and Dr. FrennySheth, Director at Foundation for Research in Genetics and Endocrinology (FRIGE) who have been doing important work in the field of Genetics and Endocrinology.They demonstrated about the current ongoing research projects at their institute and allowed the students to visit all laboratories and explained in detail about research areas like Chromosome Analysis, Blood chromosome studies, Amniotic fluid chromosome studies, Chorionic villus study, Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridization (FISH) Analysis & DNA Analysis to name a few. Many instruments were demonstrated like Gradient PCR (Polymerase chain reaction), Real time PCR, Florescent spectrophotometer, Gel electrophoresis unit, Gel documentation system(Gel Doc), and Florescent Microscope & Nano drop. Students patiently understood and saw all the live demonstrations. They were also very keen to know about the research projects. Some research projects on Cytogenetic, Molecular Genetics & Biochemical Genetics were discussed along with its indications.
Students gained full awareness and knowledge and hence the visit was really fruitful.
