Industrial visits represent important activities in any engineering undergraduate programme that contribute to the achievement of various essential learning outcomes and programme objectives. On 29th March, students of B.Tech Semester IV, Department of Mechanical Engineering visited Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd., which is probably one of the businesses in the world where no matter which country or town or village you are in, if someone asks what do you do, and you say you work for Coca-Cola, you never have to answer the question, What is that? Coca Cola is 20 years old in the soft drink industry but still Coca Cola is young and for the young. The Goblej plant is situated in peaceful environment, 30kms away from Ahmedabad city. It has the capacity of 55000 cases per day and it is producing 800 bottles per minute.
The main purpose of the visit was for better understanding of the water purification process, boiler unit, and refrigeration unit which is theoretically studied by students of Mechanical Engineering. The process of filling RCB bottles is also an important area of mechanical students. It also manufacturers’ tetra packs and tetra edged line for juice. The Industrial Visit also aimed at understanding an overall view of the Coca Cola Facility and to understand different aspects of business functions related to factory, organizational culture of Coca-Cola, technology used for making product, to know the bottling and other procedures of Coca-Cola and boiler and refrigeration unit of the company.
Initially students were welcomed, given presentations about the leading beverage brand. Students then visited different departments like carbonated soft drinks, non-carbonated soft drinks, water purification, storage, packaging, refrigeration and quality. Students were also guided with faculty experts who accompanied them.
Like they say Coco Cola opens happiness, the students were also happy visiting the plant. They had various queries regarding ingredients in various drinks and entire process and storage of the drinks, which were solved very well by Mr.Dhaval Patel at the premises. All in all, students and staff members enjoyed the technical endeavor at “Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd”.
