Corporate Resource Cell organized a visit into one of the biggest cold drink brands in India, Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd. on 19th January, 2016. The students of B.Sc. Microbiology/Biotechnology & B.Tech Biotechnology Semester IV were the prime beneficiaries of the visit.
The Coca-Cola Company is an American historical multinational beverage corporation and manufacturer, retailer, and marketer of nonalcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups, which is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Godrej Group has recently surfaced as a key home care player in the rapidly expanding Indian market, seeing its global position move from 69 in 2009 to 26 by 2014 with sales reaching US$444 million.
The objective of the visit was to familiarize the students on one of the most important aspects of life as a life science professional which is the working of bioreactors and large scale production.
The tour was initiated with some initial orientation given by the plant personnel about the rules to be followed. The students were guided steadily through the production department where the students were briefed about the different aspects to be considered like quality assurance, mass production techniques. The students were also given a short insight into the different products of the Coca Cola Company.
The students were also shown a part of the working of a bioreactor and its helpfulness in beverage industries. They were given information types of bioreactors on the basis of mode of operation, a bioreactor may be classified as batch, fed batch or continuous (e.g. a continuous stirred-tank reactor model)
The visit helped students to understand the bioreactor process and working system of Industry and gain an active insight into practical aspects of life sciences.
