The Corporate Resource Cell of Rai University organized a visit to the pride of Gujarat and one of the most visited spots in the state of Gujarat by a large number of people daily from all walks of life, the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd or popularly known as Kevadia Colony Dam. The students studying in B. Tech. Sem VI Civil Engineering were the prime beneficiaries of this Industry Visit.
The basic functionality of Hydro-Power Plant which includes high head vertical Francis Turbine, its total generating capacity is 1450 MW which is divided in 2 units :
 6 units of 200 MW each (1200 MW) Francis turbine
 5 unit of (250 MW) Kaplan turbine
It was the late Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel who conceived the idea of constructing a dam over the river Narmada in 1946-47 for the optimum use of Narmada waters for the welfare of the Nation. The Sardar Sarovar is one of the largest water resources project of India covering four major states- Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The visit was initiated with a warm welcome by the dam personnel after explaining all the fundamental instructions the students were taken through the strategic parts of the civil department like the Hydro Power Unit, the dam and apartment works, the reservoir, the canal and head regulator, the acqueduct and ultimately the students were given some information regarding the statue of unity commemorating Sardar Patel.
The students learnt about different civil engineering aspects like angular displacement, quality of concrete used, load balance and soil testing aspects which form. This visit greatly helped enhance the knowledge of the students.
