The Corporate Resource Cell of Rai University organized a visit to the well-known institute Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo- informatics (BISAG) for helping the students to understand use of spatial and geo-spatial technologies for the planning and developmental activities pertaining to Agriculture, Land and Water Resource Management, Wasteland/Watershed Development, Forestry, Disaster Management, Infrastructure and Education. The students of B.Tech (CS&IT), Diploma (CS&IT) semester V were the prime beneficiaries from this visit. Mr. Kamlesh, BISAG Admin Department was the resource person on behalf of the institute. BISAG, formerly known as Remote Sensing and Communication Centre (RESECO), has been renamed after the great Indian Mathematician of the 12th century, “Bhaskaracharya”.
Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo- informatics (BISAG) provides specialized services and solutions in implementing map-based Geo-Spatial Information Systems. BISAG undertakes all services for the entire process of implementing an enterprise level GIS system. These services include GIS database design and development, map creation/updation and finishing, data migration/conversion and format translation, software development and customization, systems integration and technical consulting. BISAG also provides complete GIS solutions, which bundle hardware, and software with GIS systems development services.
Main objective behind the visit was to acquaint students with solutions and services in the areas of mapping, cartography, imaging, photogrammetry and utility / environment resource management. Mr. Kamlesh welcomed students in the campus and he instructed them regarding the institute guidelines and restrictions during the campus visit. Then students with academic staff proceeded towards GIS building and Mr. Kamlesh further briefed the students about the BISAG profile through Presentation, videos, and images related to GIS.
After the basic introduction students were moved towards Vande Gujarat Department in order to gain knowledge about Gujarat Satcom Network. Students were guided towards the studio visit. Students learnt about how SATCOM’S network 48 channels are functioning. The students were divided into two groups to seek the knowledge and gain experience. The visit helped the students to learn various types of Remote Sensing, difference between Google Maps Vs. BISAG GIS , Types of Images e.g. Pan Images, Types of Satellite, Major GIS application in Gujarat, Gujarat SATCOM Network, Studio broadcasting – Vande Gujarat and Details regarding Training at BISAG. All in all, it was a productive visit.
