In order to provide a detailed overview into the working of the Industry, the Corporate Resource Cell organized a visit into the “Taste of India” Brand Amul’s Factory at Anand. The students pursuing B. Tech Mechanical Engineering in Semester V and Semester VII were the prime beneficiaries of this visit. The students were guided around the Amul Facility by Mr. Sundaran on behalf of the company.
Amul is an Indian dairy cooperative, based at Anand, Gujarat. It is formed in 1946, it is a brand managed by a cooperative body, the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF). Amul spurred India’s White Revolution, which made the country the world’s largest producer of milk and milk products. In the process Amul became the largest food brand in India and has ventured into markets overseas.
The tour aimed at familiarizing the students with the engineering division of Amul Industries and equip them into a real time working of the Engineering Section in Corporate. At the outset the students were given some introduction of Amul and its early history from GCMMF to the brand name Amul. The students then visited the engineering section where they were made familiar with the refridgeration, accumulation and decontamination unit used for pasteurization of milk. Students learned about different machines and equipments used in food processing, automation in processing and packaging.
The students gained a lot of insight into the actual working of the biggest dairy brand of India. They stood to get significant amount of knowledge into the different types of machines used to preserve process and produce different products from milk and regarding proper storage of them as a perishable category product.
