Dr. Bhaswat Chakraborty – Sr. Vice-President & Chair Research and Development Core Committee – Cadila Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. was the keynote speaker for the Guest Lecture on 7th October, 2014. Students of B.Sc. Biotech & Microbiology attended the lecture.
Dr. Bhaswat S. Chakraborty is graduate in B. Pharmacy (Honors) from Banaras Hindu University and a PhD in Clinical Pharmacology from University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada. He has more than 25 years of experience. Recipient of many prestigious research grants, Dr. Chakraborty is currently the Senior Vice President and Chairman of Research & Development Core Committee at Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Ahmedabad. He is also an author and co-author of more than 100 scientific papers and abstracts in refereed international journals. His area of expertise includes Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Trials (Ph I-IV), Bioequivalence Trials, Preclinical Studies, Biostatistics & Data Management.
The Veteran initiated the session talking on the differences of Biosimilars from Generics of small molecular drugs & Guiding Principles for Overall Biosimilars. He further talked on Immunogenicity Assays. He shared practical examples What, When, Where, Why Biosimilar products are required. ‘Selectivity and Structural Analysis’ was the highlight of the session. He concluded the session talking on differences between Biosimilar & Innovator affecting the B’s potency, Clinical & PK characteristics and safety profile.
During the session, students learnt about different Sampling Techniques, Biosimilars, and Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics. The lecture proved to be very inspiring and informative for the students.
