School of Agriculture arranged a field visit for B.Sc. Agriculture, Semester IV, Section A & C students to village Ambaliyara in Dholka, Ahmedabad on 16th March, 2017.
Field trips increase the interest of students in learning and we can say ignites spark to learn – in terms of the excitement and interest. Modern farming techniques certainly increase income and employment. Key objective of the visit included understanding the step wise procedure and about various methods and equipment used in daily farming. Students learnt about the field preparation for wheat crop and also about the major soil problems and problems related to quality of irrigation. Weed Management Practices were discussed in detail with reference to wheat crop. Students were also given some free time to observe and explore. The farmer discussed about fertilizer application and irrigation timing at critical stages of wheat crop in field. Students were also briefed about several hybrid varieties of farming methods adopted by the farmer. They were demonstrated wheat crop harvesting by wheat harvester. Students were also taught about soil sampling and its testing.
